I've seen it said many times that Charles Dodgson is the narrator, or possibly Arthur. But is anyone else real easily identified in the books? Is Muriel Alice Liddell, or possibly Isa Bowman?

So, that would make Tabikat Mrs Liddell? Ouch. Not a smart way to handle your boss.

In my new Carrollian book, _Behind the Looking Glass_ (Cambridge Scholars, ISBN: : 9781847184863, 2008), Chapter 8, I really get into the question of "who is who" in the _Sylvie and Bruno_ books. I take, admittantly, a rampantly philosophical approach, but think that I have probably taken a rather plausible peek "behind the looking glass". ( www.lewiscarrollmyth.com ) Sherry L. Ackerman

Ackerman Hi Sherry, Your last post on "real people in the books" was in summer 2008. Since December 2008 I am chasing them in Lewis Carroll's, Henry Holiday's and Joseph Swain's The Hunting of the Snark. This is how I came up with a " Snark Matrix". As an example, I think, that Carroll packed the characteristics of various real people into The Baker: There seems to be not only a bit of Thomas Cranmer in that fictuous character, but also a bit of Macarius (I didn't update the list yet) and St. Corbinian. Admittedly, I am threading on very thin ice with my guesses. But it's fun. The hunting will never end. Götz www.snrk.de"Only those questions that are in principle undecidable, we can decide."
