The Hunting of the Snark Musical written by Mike Batt often is mentioned as an example how the snark inspired musicians.

However, my favourite Snark composition is The Return of The Snark composed by Arne Nordheim for trombone and tape in the year 1987. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arne_Nordheim, Norway)

NYNDK's album, "The Hunting Of The Snark," came out on November 10th. There is a mix of contemporary classical music and improvisational jazz drawing from Charles Ives, Edvard Grieg, Per Norgard, George Perle, Carl Nielsen, and (here the Snark comes in) Arne Nordheim.

Before tackling an exhaustive adaptation of the spirited Finnegan’s Wake by James Joyce, Palo Alto performs a trial run of the (no less cunning) Snark by Lewis Carroll. Using a new adaptation by Jacques Barbéri, the group’s writer and musician, the eight crises in the original text will be put through the cyber-junk wringer of these happy campers. The three musicians will jump on their hobby horses and tear things up with the psyche-decadent electron-icons of Jérôme Lefdup. “Recreate the Chaos-Cosmos," as Gilles Deleuze likes to describe it, from the vantage point of the eye of the cyclone. No rhubarb down here… And the plasti-pleasure will have arrived.
