Anyone here know anything about CLD and Ireland? He did have quite strong views on it. He was dead against Gladstone's first Home Rule bill but in 1893 he remarked without comment on the passing of the Second Home Rule bill. I had always thought that both bills were pretty flawed. Anyone have any idea why he was so against the first and didnt seem to mind the second? His bank account shows that he donated a pretty sizeable sum to the Unionists in 1892 and 1893. Carroll's family had land in Ireland I believe, although I don't know the details. I don't know if - or at least I hope they were reasonable landlords! I'm cross posting this to Carrollania. Any info and suggestions welcome
