Well, with the greatest of respect, I don't really know you, and (as has been pointed out) there is a massive archive on that list dating back to 2001. While I'm sure you're not going to do anything insane and delete it or whatever, I'm sure you understand I prefer to be cautious to begin with, until we get to know one another a little better. So, I'll appoint you a mod for now. You'll be perfectly free to run the list exactly as you choose, but the option of deleting it will remain with me for the present. Is that to your liking or would you prefer someone else took over instead? I am aware that there is a massive archive there and I have the highest respect for it. My work is in international standardization; you can learn a bit more about me in the Wikipedia article about me. I have published the Irish translation of Alice in Wonderland earlier this year. As I say, I would be happy to be made owner or co-owner, but if you would like to wait, moderator status will have to do. Please set it up. (I was away for a time and this explains the delay in my visiting this forum to get back to you. I really don't prefer forum-based discussion, though I understand that many people do.) Please PM me and we can proceed by e-mail. PMed you a couple of days ago - as requested.

I recently recommended a book to a fellow Carrollian (The unknown Terrorist) that I described as 'very Carrollian. As it is a dystopian tragedy based on the way that post 9/ll society has made Orwell's vision seem almost benign, I got to wondering how others see the term Carrollian? I would love to hear from group members there views on the following: Who do people think is the most Carollian artist of the 20th century - and why? Whose music do you see as Carrollian - and why? What is the most Carrollian comedy you hae seen? Which playwrite most reflects Carroll's approach to literature? And anything else members may want to contribute on the same theme. Have fun, Regards JT John - consider moving this to the Pop Culture thread? It might get kind of lost here.

You know judging by the number of IPs that visit us daily and the number of viewings our posts get, there's a lot of people browing this site even if many of them don't post. We're linked directly from Looking for Lewis Carroll, which of itself gets around 5,000 visitors a day, so that's probably why.

It seems a teensy bit stupid that we have an identical convo, with at least two of the same people in it, happening on two diff sites right now. And, including the old yahoo list, currently three LC arenas with barely enough activity to justify one!! This boy is confused and getting dizzy!

With the old LC list re-opening it doesn't mean this one is going to close does it? Because I for one much prefer this space!
Without wanting to point fingers, just look at the discussion on Carrolliana atm and you'll get why I never posted on the old list. Seems like there was always someone turning every discussion into some excuse to be rude or aggressive or snidey. I didn't dare say anything! because I didn't wanna be flamed! If this board closes I prob won't dare say anything again! Pleeeeaaaase keep this place open, it's friendly and pretty and nice!
I hope others here agree!

Hi Jules!
A funny thing happened on the way to the forum.
I subscribe to both 'breakaway groups, and with one unfortunate exception (today) 'in the other place'. I have noticed that the level of debate has improved, and most importantly, courtesy has become an important component of the vast majority of posts. Finally consideration has largely replaced arrogance.
I think that if this site closes I might consider drowning myself in a vat of Malmsy!
Regards
JT
