Henry George Liddell at age 28 is on the right side. On the left side you see a segment of a draft by Henry Holiday for an illustration to Lewis Carroll's The Hunting of the Snark. It depicts the Billiard marker, a member of the Snark hunting party. To Carroll, the similarity of the Billard marker to his boss at Christ Church in Oxford probably was a bit too obvious. In the final illustration an older Billiard marker looked as if he had a wig and someone had chopped off his chin.
