Hi, I'm new to Carroll bibliography as I was just handed the Houghton collection to catalogue. I'm having a big problem finding the numbers sometimes when I come across a record in OCLC that references W M & G, but I can't always find them. Plus there's two numbering systems. Plus I just came across a reference for no. 852, and my 1979 ed. only goes up into the 600s. Can anyone help? Is it just me? Thanks.

I also meant to add that, in addition to the two numbering systems issue, neither system is entirely consecutive throughout the book--both numbering systems jump around numerically so I can't necessarily find things sequentially. Any help or comments on your experience would be greatly helpful!

Hi Elizabeth and welcome to the forum. My apologies for not replying sooner - unfortunately, as you can see, the forum has not been the liveliest place of late - I tend to check it out for new stuff every few days or so and I fear most of our old members have departed altogether. I'm afraid I can't help with your query as collections are really not my area - I recognise WM&G as Williams, Madan and Green but don't have their work to hand and in any case have no idea of the principles on which it was compiled. However, finding confusion in any area of Carroll studies (with a few honourable and recent exceptions) never comes as a surprise!
