A very good afternoon to all present,an interesting train of events led me to your site . After having promised the wife a cruise this year we browsed the brochures and after considered the usual destinations eg West Indies, the med,New Zealand, we decided , no contest its the Manchester ship canal for us. 35 pounds each for a sail lasting 6 hours.
Now Ill wager there are those of you who will think this chap is on the wrong site, well about 4 hours into the cruise the commentator who spoke in a posh scouse accent mentioned the fact that we were passing Daresbury, now he insisted on the pronunciation of Daresbury as first syllable as in Darth Vader not as one would have imagined as in dare to egg on,and there my friends is my reason for being here.
According to the locals its Daresbury not Daresbury. I suppose well never know how good old Lewis pronounced it,anyway I just couldnt wait to let the world know. This has really brightened up my day,in fact sat at this keyboard Im grinning like a Lancashire cat.

Welcome! I'm quite a newbie to the forum myself, but don't have an interesting tale like your's to tell I had to laugh when you mentioned about the man having a "posh scouse accent" though ;D I've often been described as a "posh scouser" myself - better than being a common one anyway (kidding ) I have no idea on the pronunciation of Daresbury/Dahsbury, but I've always pronounced it as Daresbury ("dare" as in "truth or dare"). I've been wanting to go there for a while though, so I might make the effort sometime soon and see if I can get some locals to say. It's an interesting subject though! I'd never have thought there was another way to pronounce it
