I find myself unable to locate two quotations and I would appreciate any help that might be available.
The first is from one of the biographies and goes:
"Dodgson’s personal code of conduct was so strict, that, while sympathetic to those who felt otherwise, he himself considered widowers were wrong to remarry".
(Yes, I'm aware that it's the diametric opposite of what CLD actually thought).
Can anyone remember reading this, and if so, where? My guess is Clark or Hudson - or maybe Bakewell - can anyone help me narrow it down before I start looking through all three?
The second is from a letter to Harry Furniss:
"Arthur won’t do at all!...He is forty at least. I want him to be about twenty-five ...capable of being a passionate lover..."
Much to my surprise this does not appear to be in the Collected Letters - does anyone know where it is to be found?
All the best, and with many thanks in advance
Mike
