I've just come from Yahoo too. Wasn't a member there long. Proboards do offer more versatility - and it looks gorge!

I'm Mike Riser from the yahoo group. I can understand why some long standing members would be disappointed in its closure, but I can say that I wholeheartedly endorse a move to a proper message board. Mailing lists are clunky and difficult to use and keep track of, message boards are always superior IMO. I'm happy to be here and hope that those disappointed in the move won't deprive us of their contributions here.

Hi everyone. I'm John Tufail and like most of the new members I'm delighted (though slightly overwhemed) by this new site. Well done!
In principle, the idea of having a range of discussion boards is excellent. However I do see one potential problem. This is that I can see the situation arising where a discussion will begin that falls clearly into one category (say the Alice books) but will then stray fimly into an area that more clearly affects another. The discussion on which of the two Alice books people prefer is a case in point. This could easily have drifted into a discussion that centred on areas that could more easily fit (and be moderated) in the philosophy section (for example).
I'd be interested to know what the protocol will be when this happens?
Other than this, I see this new forum as an excellent step in the right direction. One of the problems with the old list is that it tended to be taken over by a small but very vocal minority who each had their own agenda's (and Yes! Mea Culpa!). I fear that this both overwhelmed and intimidated many others who either felt unable or unwilling to compete in these sometimes arcane, sometimes overheated debates or just chose to step aside and observe. So much so in fact, that it appeared to me that their were far more 'Lurkers' registered than actual participants.
This current format goes a long way towards disipating the negative aspects of the old list and gives genuine access to a much wider range of participants. It also has been designed, I feel, in a very welcoming and friendly manner'. I like this.
Regards
John Tufail

Hear, hear! I couldn't agree more. I was intrigued by a lot of conversation that went on there, but I didn't participate in a great deal of it due to the relative scarcity of posts and the subsequent boost in the scrutiny of each contribution, even if said scrutiny was only assumed. In either case, the atmosphere here seems more relaxed and easy to attend to. I think it's a winner.

I have just joined the forum, and putting the pigean amongst the proverbial Cheshire Cats you might like to take a look at my humble attempt at a third Alice story, and se how you like it. I call it 'Alice on top of the World'. You can see the first four chapters on my blog www.gerrardtwilson.wordpress.com I would love to receive some feedback, hopefully good! Thanks from gerry
